Apache Elementary School Kindergarten Addition | Albuquerque, New Mexico
Client: Albuquerque Public Schools
Huitt-Zollars provided the design documents for a four-classroom addition to Apache Elementary School in Albuquerque. The 9,700-SF building is sited adjacent to the existing school building in close proximity to the drop-off and pick-up area. Huitt-Zollars developed several design scenarios to determine the optimal location for the new facility, including adding to and renovating the existing school building The committee determined that the a “stand-alone” building afforded them the greatest value in that three of the existing classrooms would be maintained in addition to providing five new classrooms. New spaces consist of five full-size kindergarten classrooms, with kitchenettes, toilets and storage rooms. A “special needs” kindergarten classroom is also included in the new facility to accommodate the inclusion of these students. Support spaces include student toilet rooms, lobby “break-out” space and playground area.
