John R. Ragsdale Visitors and Alumni Center | Huntsville, Texas
Client: Sam Houston State University
The two-story, 12,500-SF Visitors and Alumni Center was designed and built on a sliver of a piece of land that included a 17-foot drop in elevation from the east side to the west side within a 173-foot-wide by 93-foot-deep site. The entire first floor, which faces a beautifully-landscaped lawn, with 100-year-old live oaks, is dedicated to the Visitors Center. The second floor is dedicated to the Alumni Association offices. The two are connected by a green granite covered grand stairway. Huitt-Zollars provided architectural programming services, architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and landscape design services in conjunction with construction administration services.
