DTRA Data Center Renovation, Building B20676 | Kirtland Air Force Base, NM
Client: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Albuquerque District/Defense Threat Reduction Agency
Huitt-Zollars provided preliminary and final design documents for the facility renovations that house the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) command and administrative functions, including the primary data center for the Agency’s western region. The Data Center is one of two main data hubs for DTRA’s mission to train and safeguard the storage and deployment of all nuclear weapons for the U.S. military. The 15-year-old data center and its related computer equipment was obsolete and necessitated replacement. Flexibility was the key driver in the project design. The renovation reconfigured the existing computer room to accommodate new equipment. The renovation to the DTRA Data Center design required room layouts that could be easily reconfigured for future equipment and operation changes by incorporating a space design that will not require major reconstruction as the mission changes.
