Client: Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Southwest (NAVFAC SW)

Huitt-Zollars provided A/E design services for this fast-track design-build project consisting of a 33,896-SF steel frame building. The new facility houses all of the industrial operations involving the use of paints and undercoating compounds for the Navy Base. The project included included site clearing, grading, demolition, improvements, structures, and off-site utility work. The four paint booths range in size from 18-feet-high x 20-feet-wide x 60-feet-long to 18-feet-high x 30-feet-wide x 60-feet-long. The booths were cross-draft type with three booths having floor pits for undercarriage painting. A large 65-feet x 72-feet finish paint room was also included in the project with cross-draft corner plenum chambers. The Air Pollution Control System (APCS) is a Revolver Z Series Concentrator System. This integrated air pollution control device used absorbents in a honeycomb structure to remove volatile organic compounds (VOC) from diluted high volume air streams and concentrate the VOC into smaller streams for destruction by oxidation.
