Fort Stanton Veterans Cemetery | Fort Stanton, New Mexico
Client: State of New Mexico

Huitt-Zollars developed the long-range master plan for the 3,500-grave veteran cemetery. The cemetery is located on 13.5 acres one-half mile south of the original fort. The master plan included the preliminary design of the direct burial and cremation burial areas, committal shelter, administration and maintenance facility, access roads, fencing, landscaping and utilities. In-ground concrete crypts were installed in the initial phase of the project to provide easier burial and maintenance operations. The Maintenance and Administration Facility and the Committal Shelter were designed to complement the existing architecture at the fort, while also providing a durable and maintainable facility.
