Huitt-Zollars served as Lead Designer for this $74 million project to upgrade an existing non-controlled access facility to interstate standards; the project also included upgrading US-77 through the center of the City of Bishop. When complete, the route will be part of the new IH-69. The project involves eight miles of four-lane freeway and frontage roads. Improvements include modernizing four interchanges and adjacent intersections, improving discontinuous frontage roads for continuity, and replacing 14 bridges. The work also includes 9,900 LF of walls. Extensive coordination with the City of Bishop was necessary to ensure minimal impact to the number of businesses along the corridor.
