Architectural services were provided for this project, including programming and space planning, for one of the first high-tech transportation and emergency management centers in the nation. A needs analysis report and building program were completed to accommodate emergency operations’ space requirements for the Sheriff’s Department, Fire & Emergency Services, and the Office of Emergency Management. The analysis recommendations improved the response to Homeland Security issues, and resolved centralization of public safety communication; more than 34,600 GSF was programmed to meet the needs analysis requirements. The three-level 52,000-SF facility was designed to withstand hurricane force winds; the mechanical systems operate independently during a power blackout and emergency conditions. Morris also assisted in an expansion of the facility.
