Client: Fort Bend County

Huitt-Zollars designed and constructed a pedestrian plaza to enhance the visual and historic appeal of the area between the Historic Fort Bend County Courthouse and the County’s William B. Travis Building. The project embraced sustainable design by incorporating a 10,000-gallon rainwater harvesting system to collect, store, and pump rainwater from the roofs of both buildings for irrigation usage. The plaza is an attractive and inviting connection that promotes spontaneous pedestrian movement, scheduled community activity in a park-like setting, and enhances the existing landscape around the monuments on the courthouse grounds. The project creates green space from gray space and the design emphasis reflects a welcoming, refreshing, and peaceful area.
