West San Gabriel River Trail | Lakewood, California
Client: City of Lakewood
This 17-acre greenbelt trail was developed out of a 200-foot-wide utility easement which provided a buffer between housing and a major river/flood control channel. This vacated corridor was transformed into a naturalized amenity that provides recreational opportunities for nearby residents as well as families city-wide. Huitt-Zollars prepared the civil construction plans, specifications and estimates. Design included reconstruction of Los Angeles County Flood Control District’s access driveway to meet ADA accessibility requirements, and grading of a trail ramp embankment for naturalized pedestrian trail and passive recreation corridor.
