SH 288 – TOLL LANES

The SH 288 Toll Lanes Expansion project aims to implement improved functionality of 10.3 miles of SH 288, in one of the region’s heavily congested areas, from US 59 to the Harris County line at Clear Creek. By constructing new toll lanes, installing toll infrastructure, and establishing toll operations and maintenance, SH 288 will handle traffic better than ever before. The project, which includes construction of ten direct connectors, rebuilding an interchange, and the operation and maintenance of eight general purpose lanes, will be delivered as a toll concession project, the first of its kind in the Houston District.

Huitt-Zollars served as a subconsultant on this design-build project, and was responsible for the design of two bridge overpasses at Beltway 8, an overpass at Almeda-Genoa, six IH 610 bridges over SH 288, and two bridge widenings at Blodgett Street, Wheeler Avenue, and Cleburne Street. Designs included a cast-in-place box girder, cast-in-place post-tensioned (PT) slab widening, and five bridge PT slab widenings utilizing common TxDOT prestressed concrete box beams. Design packages were established for bridge layouts, substructure, and superstructure.
