METRO Bus Rapid Transit Stations

Huitt-Zollars provided architectural, civil engineering, structural engineering, electrical engineering design and surveying services for signature bus service along Bellaire Boulevard. Huitt-Zollars also prepared the conceptual design and final construction documents for the project. Collaborating with Houston METRO’s staff, the scope of work included the conceptual and final design of 14 signature bus shelters, porcelain tile pavers, logo, banners, lighting, lane markings, selective demolition, and signage for METRO’s “Quickline” Bus Rapid Transit service. Bellaire Boulevard is a signific

West San Gabriel River Trail

This 17-acre greenbelt trail was developed out of a 200-foot-wide utility easement which provided a buffer between housing and a major river/flood control channel. This vacated corridor was transformed into a naturalized amenity that provides recreational opportunities for nearby residents as well as families city-wide. Huitt-Zollars prepared the civil construction plans, specifications and estimates.

Soos Creek Park Trail System

Huitt-Zollars provided master plan, civil/infrastructure engineering, and landscape architecture services for the Soos Creek Trail. The project provided a phased, 500-acre, regional park and trail system. Soos Creek Park encompasses a six-mile section of Big Soos Creek with associated wetlands and valley slopes. The Soos Creek corridor is considered one of the region's most sensitive natural areas. Therefore, all development was carefully analyzed and planned in order to minimize impacts to the stream and wetland environments.

Sesquicentennial Park

Huitt-Zollars performed design and construction phase architectural and engineering services for Phase 2B of this historically significant project. Construction began in 1986, the Sesquicentennial (150 years) after the defeat of Santa Ana by General Sam Houston. Work included design of structural walls, observation of architectural masonry walls, reconstruction of the Congress Street bridge and architectural traffic railing, steel sheet piling, and concrete retaining walls; amphitheater, architectural, and engineering design of field modifications; agency coordination; and review of technic

Lake Tapps County Park

Huitt-Zollars prepared master plan refinement, plans, specifications, and permit applications for the expansion of Lake Tapps County Park. A special challenge addressed shoreline erosion that reduced the usable size of recreation areas, and threatened the longevity of existing dikes. The work plan included participation by County staff, federal, state and local agencies, and Puget Sound Energy.

Fort Bend County Pedestrian Plaza

Huitt-Zollars designed and constructed a pedestrian plaza to enhance the visual and historic appeal of the area between the Historic Fort Bend County Courthouse and the County’s William B. Travis Building. The project embraced sustainable design by incorporating a 10,000-gallon rainwater harvesting system to collect, store, and pump rainwater from the roofs of both buildings for irrigation usage.

Cottonwood Creek Trail

Dallas County, the City of Dallas, Park Foundation, and the Texas Department of Transportation approached Huitt-Zollars to design one of the final sections of a hike and bike trail system connecting Hamilton Park to a section of trail adjacent to the ‘High-Five’ interchange of LBJ Freeway and US 75.

Constellation Field

As a member of the City’s Program Management Team and Lead Civil, Structural, MEP and Illumination Engineer and Landscape Architect, Huitt-Zollars developed the site plan, utility plans, grading plans, lighting plans, landscape/irrigation plans, conceptual structural plans as well as MEP, fire protection, and IT/Data design requirements for Constellation Field, the City of Sugar Land’s new $27.9 million Professional Minor League Baseball Stadium.

Celebration Park

Huitt-Zollars provided site civil engineering design and surveying services for Celebration Park, a 100-acre multi-use park for the citizens of Allen. The park includes 15 soccer fields, four baseball fields, two basketball/volleyball courts, tennis courts, horseshoe and washer courts, a playground and spray-ground, restroom/concession pavilions, performance pavilion, 9-acre great lawn for festivals and gatherings, parking lots for 925 vehicles, and hiking trails.
