Huitt-Zollars is pleased to announce that Joel S. Colwell, AIA, FHFI, has joined as Vice President. In his role, Joel will lead business development initiatives for the firm’s Healthcare market. He will also partner with the Federal practice to facilitate healthcare projects for government agencies. Joel will primarily work out of Huitt-Zollars’ Downtown Houston office.
Joel brings nearly three decades of experience in project management plus design and construction management for clients in the healthcare and federal sectors, most recently serving as Healthcare Studio Leader at WHR/EYP. In his previous positions, Joel successfully managed a multitude of projects for major healthcare systems in the Northeast region and in Houston, Texas, as well as successfully pursued U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical facilities contracts.
Significant healthcare projects include the $875-million North Tower Expansion at Houston Methodist Hospital; design and construction renovation and expansion initiatives associated with the Memorial Hermann Healthcare System; and the Stamford Health System’s $450-million South Expansion Building in Stamford, Connecticut. Federal healthcare projects include numerous projects associated with IDIQ Design-Build MEDCOM MATOC contracts and the design and construction of a new 50,000-square-foot ($25 M) Medical/Dental clinic facility for US Navy in Manama, Bahrain.
Joel earned a Bachelor of Architecture from Louisiana State University and his NCARB Certification. He is also a fellow in the Health Facilities Institute.
