Main Street Improvements

Houston’s Main Street was rebuilt in 2003 as part of the contraction of the city’s first light rail line. It has become a focus for the redevelopment of Downtown Houston, with two new offices towers completed since light rail construction began and eight new residential, office, hospitality, and public projects currently under construction or in development. 10 years after the rebuilt street opened, Huitt-Zollars was selected to undertake an $8 million project to make strategic improvements to the street, including new street lighting, plantings, street furniture, signage, and possible reconfiguration of traffic and pedestrian flows to enhance bike connectivity and create new public space. Morris began the project with a series of intensive stockholder workshops to gather input on the current state of the street and on aspirations for improvements. Based on that input, Huitt-Zollars has developed designs for the different sections of the street, prioritized potential improvements, built a coordinated 3-D model of the the entire public realm, and then lead the preparation of construction documents. The project was completed in the fall of 2016.
