Huitt-Zollars served as the General Engineering Consultant for facilities design and construction. The program’s overall cost exceeded $1 billion and included a 21‑mile LRT System, an 11-mile commuter rail system, plus numerous transit centers for improved bus and express bus services. The 21-mile LRT system was developed within railroad, electric transmission line, and roadway rights‑of‑way. Key features along the corridor consist of a 3.5-mile twin bore transit tunnel located below US-75; a transit mall in downtown Dallas; a 2,000-LF bridge across the Trinity River; and two extended grade separations were incorporated to alleviate traffic congestion and proximity to freeway interchanges.
