University of New Mexico - Art Museum Expansion

Huitt-Zollars completed the design and construction documents for the renovation of the former Fine Arts Library space to provide new galleries, exhibit preparation and storage area, classrooms and print storage vault for the existing UNM Art Museum. The existing museum was located on the main and lower levels of the building. The new spaces are located on the upper level of the building. The project will include the installation of a new hydraulic elevator to connect all three levels of the museum.

University of Central Florida - Knights Plaza

At the University of Central Florida’s Knights Plaza, Huitt-Zollars’ bold vision reinvented the existing plaza by giving it a new modern aesthetic, a sense of place, and more appropriately scaled spaces. The design broke the previous plaza down into three distinct outdoor “rooms,” providing needed spatial definition, shade, and seating options. This dynamic solution maintains a central events space, bound by alleys of date palms, plants, and fountains, creating shaded seating options in the new interstitial spaces between the larger rooms.

Tan Tao University Campus Master Plan

Master plan and design services were provided for the new 400-acre university campus, designed to accommodate a student body of 20,000. Native limestone with granite and marble accents establishes a campus architectural vernacular; the campus buildings total 4,500,000 SF. Completed in phases, the first buildings will include 823,665 SF and were designed to meet the specific needs of the following disciplines: Architecture, Business, Engineering, Liberal Arts, Media, and Science.

Lone Star College - Energy & Manufacturing Institute

Programming and architectural design services were provided for a 70,000-SF high-tech workforce training facility created for the energy industry. The project includes 28 classroom/laboratory spaces equipped with compressed air, 120V and 208V power and audio/video systems for engineering technology, automated manufacturing and corporate college programs, two simulation labs for drilling and crane operation, a high bay manufacturing area with a 20-ton rail crane, machine shops, quality control lab, and an administrative/faculty suite. Associate Architects: AUTOARCH Architects and Archi*Techn

University of Texas - School of Law Library

Jesse H. Jones Hall is one of three buildings occupied by the UT School of Law with each building featuring a different architectural style and character. Morris, a Huitt-Zollars company, was commissioned to design office space to accommodate additional faculty and program directors. The commission also includes the restack/consolidation of the library from six floors to three floors. The UT Law Library is the largest in the U.S.

Santa Monica College - Media Center and IT Building

Design services were provided for the renovation of a 10,841-SF portion of the Campus Library and a new 14,060-SF addition for the Media Center, Information Technology, and supporting services. Design considerations incorporated function and adjacencies, departmental identities, entries and circulation, operating hours, data center expansion, daylight and views, campus identity, open space, sustainability, phasing, and schedule effects.

Lone Star College - Tomball Performing Arts Center

Project management and full architectural and design services were provided for the 30,000-SF, 425-seat versatile Tomball Performing Arts Center at Lone Star College. Acoustic design supports theatre, lecture, music, chorale, or local performances while enhancing each production with state-of-the-art technology. The theatre space achieved an acoustic noise coefficient of NC-15. The rigging and lighting design supports expansion with future needs.

Texas State University - Performing Arts Center

Texas State’s new Performing Arts Center houses multiple department and community productions. A 300-seat Music Recital Hall, a 400-seat Proscenium Theatre with an 80’ high fly tower, and an operable orchestra pit contribute to the 43,700-SF venue. Supporting ongoing sustainability goals, the design for LEED Silver-NC certification also aligns with campus master plan guidelines. The design team’s dedication to BIM provided essential insight into the complicated facility and delicate performance spaces.
