Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery Expansion

Huitt-Zollars served as A/E of record on the VA Cemetery Gravesite Expansion design-build team. The project called for survey, construction testing, geotechnical, irrigation design, and fire protection sprinkler design services. Huitt-Zollars provided design and construction documents to convert 70 acres of undeveloped land adjacent to the existing cemetery into more than 11,000 new burial sites, additional columbaria, and a new cemetery maintenance facility. Deteriorating circulation roads were reconstructed and existing irrigation lines were transferred from the potable system to a new non-potable service. The design-build format permitted burial operations during construction, a critical aspect of project success.
