Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) General Engineering Contract

Huitt-Zollars served as the General Engineering Consultant for facilities design and construction. The program’s overall cost exceeded $1 billion and included a 21‑mile LRT System, an 11-mile commuter rail system, plus numerous transit centers for improved bus and express bus services. The 21-mile LRT system was developed within railroad, electric transmission line, and roadway rights‑of‑way. Key features along the corridor consist of a 3.5-mile twin bore transit tunnel located below US-75; a transit mall in downtown Dallas; a 2,000-LF bridge across the Trinity River; and two extended grade

Spur 366 Extension

This project involved the extension of Spur 366 (Woodall Rodgers) from east of IH-35E to west of the Trinity River with a tie into Singleton Boulevard, and a signature bridge at the main channel. West of the Trinity River, the project involves reconstruction of the existing Beckley Avenue/Continental Avenue cloverleaf interchange. Beckley Avenue is raised to the Woodall Rodgers level and converted to a signalized intersection with a western tie into the recent Singleton Boulevard rehabilitation project.

Chisholm Trail Parkway, Section 3B

Huitt-Zollars, as an extension of the NTTA staff, provided construction engineering and inspection services for a major highway interchange project on Chisholm Trail Parkway (SH-121) at the IH-20/SH-183 split on the southwest side of Fort Worth, Texas. Section 3B ($92.5M) is one of six sections of the new, 26-mile corridor which runs from downtown Fort Worth to Cleburne, Texas, and consists primarily of main lanes and direct connector construction.

Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge

Huitt-Zollars served as the Structural Engineer-of-Record for this signature bridge adjacent to downtown Dallas. The bridge is part of the Woodall Rodgers Freeway (Spur 366) extension across the Trinity River floodplain. The 1,200-foot cable-stayed bridge has a 430-foot-tall arch pylon, supporting the six travel lane superstructure. The deck cross section consists of a central box girder, cantilevered transverse steel floor beams, longitudinal stringers and a concrete deck. Huitt-Zollars was a subconsultant to Santiago Calatrava, the prime designer.

Lantana Planned Community

Lantana is a 1,750-acre master planned community of approximately 4,000 single-family residences, an 18 hole golf course with club house, various community amenity facilities, three school sites, over 200 acres of nature preserve, 40 acres of strategically located retail and commercial properties, coupled with a 350-room resort hotel/conference center. Huitt-Zollars prepared the project master plan, civil infrastructure design, construction administration and inspection, plus survey support services.

Dallas Love Field Modernization Program Landside

Huitt-Zollars served as Lead Civil Engineer for landside improvements included with the program to develop a new 20-gate air carrier terminal for the airport. The project included widening the Cedar Springs Drive entrance roadway, new water and wastewater utilities, reconstruction of the Aviation Place service roadway, surface parking, traffic signals, pedestrian tunnels, landscaping, walls, ADA compliance, signage, and ITS systems. Drainage improvements eliminated roadway inundation problems.
