DFW International Airport Runway 18L/18R Extensions

Huitt-Zollars provided both design and construction management services for two 2,000-linear-foot runway extensions, plus a 130,000-SY holding apron. Improvements included airfield lighting, FAA NAVAID relocation, drainage, lighting, and markings. The holding apron is configured to accommodate three parallel taxiways. To minimize disruptions to flight operations, the Airport added Taxiway G8 and High Speed Exit E3 elements to the construction scope. Pavement design included analysis of alternate concrete pavement sections and determination of pavement thickness, based on FAA advisory circular standard and optional methods.
