Kaiser engaged Huitt-Zollars to design this adaptive re-use of an 18,000 SF existing single-story building that they leased from the City of Simi Valley into a Behavioral Health and Addiction Medicine clinic. After gutting the interior of the building, Huitt-Zollars designed a plan utilizing Kaiser’s RAD (Re-imagined Ambulatory Design) concept to include 24 provider offices, four medium size group rooms, staff and patient lounge facilities, new rooftop air handling units, a landscape refresh, parking lot resurfacing to comply with current accessibility requirements, and a large public square where patients can self-check-in and wait for doctor’s appointment in lounge type seating clusters that feature equipment with wireless Wi-Fi access and flat-screen wall monitors. The 24 provider offices make up the remaining half of the floor plan which also contains a triage clinic to care for individuals who may need to be transferred to acute care. The provider office area design includes medical assistant spaces for patient intake, a staff lounge area, a lactation room for staff members with newborn babies, and a shower area for staff members.
