Central and Unser Transit Center Expansion

In anticipation of Albuquerque’s Bus Rapid Transit system rollout, Huitt-Zollars worked with ABQ Ride to upgrade various components of the transit infrastructure. Located adjacent to the City’s new Central and Unser Library, the existing facility was expanded to provide dedicated platforms for the new bus fleet that facilitates rapid passenger embarkation/disembarkation movements. Additional conventional bus berths were provided to address peak-time congestion and to maintain adequate headway for the buses.

Artesia Aquatic Center

In June 2017, the Artesia Aquatic Foundation selected the Huitt-Zollars design and planning team to provide architectural and engineering design for their new family aquatic center and high school competition pool. The project emerges from a collaboration between the City of Artesia, Artesia Public Schools, and the AAC Foundation.

Zuni Wellness Center

More than just a fitness facility, the 20,800 square-foot Zuni Wellness Center was designed to serve the community with a place to gather for nutritional counseling, diabetes and general health classes, as well as working out and fitness activities. The Center was built in two phases.

Zuni Senior Center

The 9,600 square foot Zuni Senior Center provides the Elders a safe, comfortable, and culturally responsive place to gather, socialize, and conduct programs. The building’s main space, a large activities room, allows for group activities such as exercise, dining, and social events. The breathtaking view of the sacred mesa, Dowa Yalanne or “Corn Mountain,” fills this room with its majestic presence and reinforces the Elders’ tie to their sacred land.

Parkview Early Literacy Center

The 48,000 square-foot Parkview Early Literacy Center will provide developmentally disabled students an environment where learning and teaching will be fun, productive and fundamental for their growth. The design provides 20 classrooms which are organized in groups of four, forming a Learning Pod. Each Learning Pod’s design will have two shared Sensory Rooms, a Commons area (or break out space), a kitchenette, a Speech, Language and Pathology office, student and staff restrooms, sterilization area, and storage space.

Wilson Middle School Renovation/Addition

The Albuquerque Public Schools retained Huitt-Zollars to expand and update the existing 60-year-old main building at Wilson Middle School. This project upgraded and expanded the classrooms, the administration suite, and the associated support spaces which include student restrooms, teacher's lounge, custodial, and storage rooms. Existing classrooms were enlarged to meet PSFA standards for middle schools. Student restrooms were also upgraded to comply with accessibility requirements. Interior finishes are durable and easily maintained, typical for school environments.
