Bush Intercontinental Airport Automated People Mover System

Huitt-Zollars provided structural engineering design and construction phase services for the expansion of the Automated People Mover (APM) Elevated Guideway System at George Bush Intercontinental Airport. This project was part of the International Services Expansion Program under the direction of the Houston Airport System. The design involved approximately 3,000 linear feet of one elevated guideway, and an APM station.

Houston Intercontinental Airport Runway 15L/33R Reconstruction

Huitt-Zollars served as part of the design team to rehabilitate this existing runway. This project includes both airfield pavement redevelopment and a bonded concrete overlay, reports, preliminary and final design, along with construction phase services. The project scope included design and pavement replacement for 3,000 linear feet of runway; bonded concrete overlay on 5,000 linear feet of existing runway and connecting taxiways. Huitt-Zollars produced the plan sheets for demolition, geometry, joint layout plans and details, SWPPP, paving details, and specifications.

DFW International Airport Runway 18L/18R Extensions

Huitt-Zollars provided both design and construction management services for two 2,000-linear-foot runway extensions, plus a 130,000-SY holding apron. Improvements included airfield lighting, FAA NAVAID relocation, drainage, lighting, and markings. The holding apron is configured to accommodate three parallel taxiways. To minimize disruptions to flight operations, the Airport added Taxiway G8 and High Speed Exit E3 elements to the construction scope.

Love Field Modernization Program - Airside Apron Improvements

Huitt-Zollars provided comprehensive engineering and construction management services for airside civil improvements, as part of the Love Field Modernization Program to develop a new 20-gate terminal complex. The airside scope of work included 323,000-SY of new pavement around the new terminal, taxiway improvements, apron and taxiway lighting, a new hydrant fuel system, new fuel lines for fuel system capacity expansion, remain overnight aircraft parking, and major drainage system improvements to mitigate flood hazards.

Dallas VA Medical Center Expansion

Huitt-Zollars provided design services for the 606,340-square-foot expansion and 486,290-square-foot renovation. Results of a Huitt-Zollars study were incorporated into the design of a new Central Energy Plant. The project incorporated a campus wide Energy Management System. The electrical design included 480v and 15 KV distribution systems. A 600 KW emergency generator unit powers essential plant loads during commercial utility outages.

Lone Star College - Tomball Performing Arts Center

Project management and full architectural and design services were provided for the 30,000-SF, 425-seat versatile Tomball Performing Arts Center at Lone Star College. Acoustic design supports theatre, lecture, music, chorale, or local performances while enhancing each production with state-of-the-art technology. The theatre space achieved an acoustic noise coefficient of NC-15. The rigging and lighting design supports expansion with future needs.
