Ortega Highway (SR 74) Road Widening

Huitt-Zollars prepared construction plans to widen 1.5 miles of highway, including a major intersection expansion at Antonio Parkway/La Pata Avenue. The work included developing new traffic signals, utility relocations, storm water drainage improvements, and right-of-way plans. Significant earthwork was required to build the roadway in mountainous terrain. Plans were prepared in accordance with Caltrans’ plan set requirements. Huitt-Zollars was responsible for topographic mapping and prepared the right-of-way requirement mapping.

La Pata Extension Project

Huitt-Zollars prepared the PS&E and right-of-way documents for this 3.7-mile roadway project, which eliminated a gap in the County’s arterial highway system. The highway is a six-lane arterial with a major intersection with SH-74, Ortega Highway. Design challenges for the project included crossing an existing landfill, mountainous terrain, roadway grades up to seven percent, landslide remediation, bridge and tunnel construction, and relocation of an electric transmission tower.

Lost Hills Road Interchange

Huitt-Zollars provided planning, project reports, environmental analysis, structural design and calculations, and final plans, specifications and estimates for the Lost Hills Road Interchange on US 101. The project included widening an existing two-lane bridge over Highway 101 to a new five-lane bridge with an expanded cloverleaf interchange, along with on- and off-ramps. Multiple alternative interchange configurations were analyzed, to develop the plan that provided adequate capacity while minimizing community impacts.
